Completing the Outfit

To promote our party wear collections, April Evening and RetroThreads (me) are collaborating. We both have a "Party Time Glamour" section and we've added a link to each other's sections in item descriptions. Her shop has lovely vintage gloves which she embellishes with vintage trims. I have a variety of items like gowns, blouses, shoes and purses. Take a look at April Evening's Party Time Glamour section and mine, RetroThreads's Party Time Glamour section.

World's ugliest jacket:front

An idea I've had for several years is finally going to happen. I always wanted a website devoted to nothing but showcasing the horrible clothing I run across in thrift stores. Rather than honor these items with monetary value, I simply take a pic, tag them "uglyduds" and post them here on my blog. More "gems" to come ! Stay tuned, and enjoy this beauty while you're waiting :-)

Red and Green Plaid Taffeta Skirt

Ready to wear to your next holiday party, that is, if you are very tall. This skirt is almost as tall as I am ! The fabric is that wonderful, rustling taffeta that makes a statement. If you're not tall enough for the skirt as is, it would make a great dress or holiday home decor. For more photos, check it out here.

So Much Vintage, So Little Time

Well, not really...I've got plenty of clean, press, photograph, photoshop, measure, describe and list. It's just that I don't enjoy it. Sure I enjoy playing with all the good stuff I have hanging all over the house, but it was alot easier when I had a booth at the antique mall. I sure do miss it. They closed down two summers ago. Every 3 or 4 days, I would just grab a handful of ready to go out the door stuff and drive it 2 miles down the street to my booth. Then I would dive in to playing, straightening, decorating, talking to a customer or two. The front desk took care of all the sales. I didn't have to handle money at all. Oh, well, somedays I feel productive and start ironing or measuring, but most days, I get distracted with other projects. If I could only find another antique mall nearby......

Meanwhile, take a look at a few things I found recently that don't need ironing ;-)

Barbie Doll Pattern

Barbie Doll Pattern, originally uploaded by ambrosianbeads.

It's my birthday today, so I started the celebration on Monday with my monthly thrifting trip down Route 1 from Alexandria to Woodbridge (VA) where I can stop at up to 6 thrift stores, plus get some Hot, Glazed Doughnuts (TM) at Krispy Kreme along the way. At one of my stops, I was pawing through the pattern boxes and nabbed this Barbie outfits pattern. I haven't checked whether all the pieces are there, but I can create something if I need to.

Here today, gone tomorrow !

Vintage Crochet Flag Motif

It seems the last couple items I listed on Etsy were quite popular. They were hardly up for long and now are heading out to their new homes. A lovely dark kelly green vintage blouse, and a matched set of brightly colored sheets are on their way. Still in the shop are some other interesting items recently listed: a vintage hand-crocheted US flag motif, some new patterns and one of my vintage apron tote bags, which, by the way, my tote bag tutorial was featured in a new crafty blog called Just Something You Made.
